New Beginners

New Beginners

Jennifer Garner is one of my personal heroes.  I love what she has done professionally (who doesn’t love Alias?!) and  I’m inspired by all she does personally with the use of her platform.

Katie Couric interviewed Jennifer in her podcast, “Next Question.” I loved what Jennifer said about always trying to learn something new, whatever stage you are in in life.  I could relate to what they said about learning basic business skills (I’m a work in progress here with Flourish Psychology, LLC), but also learning how to do other things, like tennis or skiing.

We know that learning new things is good for our brain.  It’s also great to model for our kids.  Back to that concept of showing them that it is okay to struggle, to fail, to work hard to get better.  Too many of my little clients struggle with worries about failure.  Our culture just isn’t supporting this as much as it could.  But you can.  As Jennifer said “Don’t let yourself be embarrassed” about learning new things.  Be brave.  Struggle.  Grow.
