Book Review: Brainstorm. The Teenage Brain Inside and Out by Daniel Siegel
This book is intended for teens and adults to read. There are four sections that offer specific tools you can use to improve in each area. The book also focuses on connecting to your emotions and your physiologic experience by explaining the brain and its development through the teenage years. It offers specifics about the unique structures of teen brains and how behavioral and emotional fluctuations during this time can be expected and are developmentally normal. For example, it explains how teens are much more focused on the pros for a situation rather than avoiding the cons. Understanding how your teen views the world helps us know how to harness their abilities and strengths. Overall, the book talks to both parents and teens and answers both the question of "Is this normal?" and "So what do I do about it." The goal is that by understanding what happening relationships during this time can be strengthened and even enjoyed!
